A woman attempted to give birth at the Glastonbury Festival last weekend - on purpose.

According to a website, she took a midwife with her to the event, hoping that she would give birth to the first Glastonbury child since 1998.

A spokeswoman told festivalwise.com: "She went to the garden where the healing angel is to sit in a dome which is a sacred place connected to the earth to get good energies."

Blimey.

If my memories of labour serve me right, she would need a bit more help than a "healing angel" and "good energies".

Like gas and air. And perhaps an epidural.

Apparently it didn't go quite according to plan though and the woman was eventually taken off site to a nearby village to continue the birth.

Taking a baby to Glastonbury seems rash to me. Having one there seems plain daft.

Some people worry about catching MRSA in hospital. Have you seen the state of festival loos? Not exactly where you want to be having your post-natal experience.

And the first thing you want to do having recovered from the birth is have a nice long shower. Good luck with that in the muddy fields of Glastonbury.

I just wish the website had managed to find out what the woman had called her baby. I bet it would put Petal Blossom Rainbow Oliver in the shade.

Some people do have the strangest birth plans. I went to antenatal yoga classes (yes, yes, I know, I sound like I wanted to give birth in the healing fields too).

One woman there was adamant she was going to have a home water birth, with no drugs at ALL, not even gas and air. The women present who had already had children couldn't stop laughing.

I know sometimes these birth plans work out. But it's best not to get too hung up on your "ideal birth" otherwise you'll be really upset when you find yourself in the back of an ambulance being rushed to hospital for an emergency Caesarean.
