Hello and welcome to our regular roundup of the best of this week's UK parenting blogs. This week, to dispel the scurrilous rumour that MBFR is only interested in poo jokes and whining for cake, I bring you some altogether more worthy heroes of the parent blogging world.

But first, the hugest amount of comments ever greeted the news here on ParentDish that Katie Price is amongst the nominees for Mum of the Year. Hundreds of you disagreed with this one. A few people stood up for Ms Price, but over all the reaction could best be summed up as: Noooooooooo!

So let's look elsewhere for excellence in the service of parenthood. Raise your cup of tea to Very Bored Housewife, who's had a frankly rubbish year, but still managed to find some good things to focus on. Here's to better days ahead.

And surely Mother of Shrek deserves an award for the challenging behaviour she deals with on a daily basis. Thank you for blogging about this, so others can learn from your strategies and feel less alone.

Please join me in reassuring Reasons to be Cheerful, who's concerned that she may be going ever so slightly mad. That's normal, y'know? We all feel a bit like that at least some of the time.

And finally, I think my nomination for honorary Mum (and Dad) of the Year must go to Ian at Single Parent Dad, who this week has been engaged in a difficult balancing act of managing both his own and his son's grief. Katie Price is yesterday's news, and SPD's novel, autobiography, range of perfume and jaunty underwear will be following shortly.
