She's behind you!
Coming shortly to a pantomime near you, the best of the UK's mummy bloggers are planning a nationwide review of the country's top Christmas shows. And it's all in aid of a children's cancer charity.
The Great Panto Review 2009 is being organised by Linda Jones of the family travel and activity site Have a Lovely Time (which has just been named one of the top 10 travel blogs by LastMinute.com). Linda says: "The idea was inspired by the fact that my family loved John Barrowman at the Birmingham Hippodrome last year and as Aladdin the year before. I wanted to be able to share that laughter with other bloggers, as well as promoting the Great British panto and raising money for a wonderful charity."
The National Alliance of Childhood Cancer Parent Organisations (NACCPO) is made up of parent run organisations that have common aims of working together to support children and young adults with cancer.
Leading theatres in England, Scotland and Wales have agreed to let the mummy bloggers and their families come and see the shows to review them. Cardiff's New Theatre where John Barrowman is appearing as Robin Hood and the Birmingham Hippodrome (featuring Ray Quinn and Joe Pasquale in Sleeping Beauty) were among the first to pledge to welcome the bloggers and back the charity effort.
And ParentDish will be represented too - the Theatre Royal in Brighton have invited my daughter and me along to one of the first performances of their Christmas show, Peter Pan. We're very excited about it and will be reporting from there next week to let you know what we think about it. So if you live in Brighton or are visiting over Christmas and New Year (the show runs from 4th December to 3rd January) look out for our review on Have a Lovely Time.
Bloggers taking part will be asked to donate to NACCPO, while readers will also be asked to give generously
NACCPO fundraiser Rachael Olley commented: "To see the star names in productions already backing this campaign is great for us. We rely on fundraising and applaud the bloggers for their innovative way of bringing in money which will be used to support children with cancer. We are entirely dependent on fundraising to continue our services - we do not receive any government or statutory funding so every penny is gratefully received."
