Junior Bloggers' Half Term Roundup
Filed under: Kids+, Fun & activities, Best of the Blogs
So you may have noticed that it's half term this week. I certainly did, as the house is littered with small people DRIVING ME CRAZY. So I set out to find some blogging children as an example to my lot of what other kids can achieve when they're not engaged in parental harrassment.
A recent survey claimed that children who blog are better writers and the evidence seems to show that this is the case.
Tons of people recommended Totally Sonny as a great blog written by a delightful young man and part-time toy reviewer. Sonny is the offspring of Sian from Mummy Tips, so he's joining the family blogging business.
Blogger Crystal Jigsaw is also raising a junior blogger, as her daughter's blog Amy's Special Stories showcases some lovely tales from a ten-year-old girl who's autistic.
Last week I told you about Zoe's Book Blog, in which a 12-year-old from Scotland reviews her favourite books. This week, publisher Scott Pack's blog Me and My Big Mouth has been taken over by his children, Martha and Ethan. They pull no punches in their recommendations of books, websites and retro food. Children are such tough critics, at least you know you can trust their honesty.
Overall, I think it's a good thing that these children's blogs are being written with the close co-operation of parents. Children are not always aware of how stuff you post may be regarded by the outside world. So if your child wants to write a blog, it's a good idea to check what they've written before it's published. If it would embarrass them in ten years' time, then maybe it's not a good idea to post it now. If it embarrasses their parents now, then do post it and Tweet the link, we could all do with a laugh.
