thoughtful, abortion, pregnancyDraft guidance from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists has claimed that abortion is 'safer' than having a full-term pregnancy.

The document - compiled by 18 senior gynaecologists, nurses and abortion providers - is intended for all medical staff who advise women who are considering terminating a pregnancy.

Under the title of 'what women need to know' medics are informed: 'Women should be advised that abortion is generally safer than continuing a pregnancy to term.'

And whilst doctors have up until now warned women that psychiatric illness and self-harm is higher among those who've had an abortion, the new guidelines claim there is no evidence that terminations cause psychological problems.

Speaking to The Sunday Telegraph, Josephine Quintavalle, of the Pro-Life Alliance claimed the organisation was 'manipulating the evidence' to promote a pro-choice message. She said: 'I don't believe that most women considering abortions are worried it will kill them or are worrying about dying in childbirth; this is a blatant attempt to force an absurdly liberal agenda on women when they are at their most vulnerable.'

The Royal College said it would rewrite some of the recommendations after The Sunday Telegraph raised concerns.
