Lady Gaga's lawyers have reportedly threatened legal action against a London ice-cream parlour selling breast milk ice cream for using her name in its branding.
The letter from Law firm Mishcon de Reya instructed the company to remove Gaga from the name 'if you wish to avoid proceedings for trade mark infringement and passing off'.
Gaga's legal team have given The Icecreamists company instructions to change the name of the 'Baby Gaga' ice-cream or they will start proceedings.
It also warned them to 'cease and desist from in any other way associating with Lady Gaga any ice cream you are offering,' saying the The Icecreamists are 'taking unfair advantage of, and riding on the coat tails of' Lady Gaga's trademarks in ways that are 'deliberately provocative and, to many people, nausea-inducing'.
The first batch of the controversial ice cream sold out within days of going on sale. It is made with expressed breast milk from 15 women who replied to an advert on a parenting forum. However, as we reported last week, Westminster council demanded it was temporarily taken off sale whilst they carried out health and safety checks.
A council spokeswoman said at the time the ice cream was not banned, merely being scanned for viruses: 'It's not a ban. The owner has voluntarily agreed not to make any more or sell any more until we've got all the results.'
The manufacturers insist they used the same screening procedures as blood donation centres or milk banks in London.
