The research was undertaken to 'better understand' the effect crime has on kids, and how safe they feel.
It revealed 13 per cent of 13 to 15-year-olds know someone who has carried a knife for protection, whilst estimates suggest 1% of youngsters in the age group actually carried a knife themselves.
The study also found that almost 70% of kids between 13 and 15 said they felt that carrying a knife meant they would be more likely to be stabbed themselves, although researchers said the older the children were, the less likely they were to strongly agree that such a risk existed.
Scary stats though, eh? Thirteen per cent of children with a knife carrying acquaintance?
Do you worry about your kids' and knife crime? Have your children spoken to you about knives? Do you think there should be more campaigns aimed at youngsters on the dangers of carrying knives?
