Mum sentenced for theft given time to see children before jail

A mum of two who stole close to £25,000 has had her sentence adjourned so she can tell her children she's going to prison.

Sandra Hook forged signatures to authorise fraudulent payments and cash invoices at her work at Walsall Council for amounts between £50 and £500.

After she was sentenced to jail for her crime, she was allowed to go home and see her children, aged six and ten, and explain to them she was going to prison.

Judge John Wait said he didn't think the youngsters should hear about their mum on the news or from classmates at school, saying: 'It's a matter of common humanity that your children should be told by you and your husband.'
