A study by the World Cancer Research Fund has found that a staggering 40 per cent of kids' packed lunches do not contain any fruit or veg.
The researchers found that only 58% of children's school lunch boxes had at least least one of the recommended five a day servings of fruit or vegetables.
A spokeswoman for The WCRF's, Kate Mendoza, said that packed lunches were not up to scratch compared to school dinners: "As the nutritional content of school meals has improved, the healthiness of packed lunches has been left behind."
The study found that 90% of school dinners provided a balanced diet, and met the fruit and veg guidelines.
