Angry mums stage breastfeeding flashmob in front of Christmas shoppers

I cant believe there is still an argument against breast feeding! We are bombarded with "breast is best" do not bottle feed or your baby will be obese etc But really what the media should be saying is - Breast feed your baby morning noon and night, just do it behind closed doors...
At the end of the day, if you’re a breast feeding mum and your baby is hungry, why should you go look for a dark cupboard under the stairs type room to feed your baby?? Get a grip Britain, there are far worse things out there to offend your eyes and damage your kids!
And all this from a mum of a 12 yr old who was bottle fed (who by the way is perfectly healthy and NOT obese!!!! lol)

i am a breastfeeding mother and i have fed my children whenever i have been out and about because they needed feeding not because i want people to look at me in fact that is the very last thing that i want. i am just doing what nature intended for me to do with my breasts. men make take pleasure and be aroused by breasts but when all is said they are glands that produce milk when a woman has a child. for people who use urinating in public and other bodily functions to try and say that breastfeeding is unacceptable then please answer me this why are you not shouting about the mothers who prop a bottle in a babies mouth and dont watch the baby for signs of choking? or how about the mums who stuff junk food in a babies mouth? isnt that worse than a mother giving her child the right nourishment?

Is it always saggy, grubby, matted hair, woolly coated types who
favour feeding all over the place up hill and down dale - ever noiced that.....?
Maybe it's the appearance of them doing it, not the feeding that people object to, full stop.

My argument is very sensible, as you are well aware, but trying to patronise me is most certainly not very sensible. There is no intolerance, foot stamping or hissy fits as you put it, just a calm sensible lady sat at her computer. There was a time many years ago where women were often controlled and repressed by men. Things are very different now. Im guessing that you would be more comfortable living i those past times. It clearly makes you very uncomfortable when strong women speak up and fight for what they belive in. Oh and, ideaville, when i began to read your comments i thought 'fair enough, thats certainly one idea worth exploring' when you mentioned having some restaurants where breastfeeding was allowed.....then you went on to describe masturbating as a natural function as is breastfeeding, but you wouldnt want that done in restaurants....dear oh dear, there is no hope. Ive said all i have to say, feel free to re read my previous posts on this thread and you may enlighten yourself.

Ah well, say no more, just the fact that you talk about nose picking, urinating in the street and swearing in public when trying to explain your views on breastfeeding in public shows what a revolting man you are. Like i said before, you clearly have issues and no idea what you are talking about. A person in a restaurant has the right to eat a meal in peace, and so does a breastfeeding mother and her suckling baby. That is why there are now laws in place to protect such women and their children. If you feel aroused or embarrased by what you see then you need to learn a bit of self control, either that or move away. Your right, the world doesnt stop because a woman wants to breastfeed, and thats why these women and many others who support them have staged this protest. No nursing mother wants a 'scene' they just want to get on with their lives and not be treated like they are commiting some dreadful act. A lot of women are bullied into remaining silent on these topics because of people like yourself. On a purely scientific level however, breastfeeding is a right brained activity, therefore the only way you would ever truly understand it is by doing it. Its women who breastfeed, so they dont need a man to tell them what is and isnt acceptable based on thier prejudiced or screwed up views. So time to wind your neck in, you know it makes sense.

Well said Amanda. Georgejarrold, after reading your other comment, i should just inform you that i most certainly am not an intolerant type as you put it. Quite the opposite, and the last time i had a tantrum i was about 2 yrs old.
The issue was actually about mothers staging a protest about being criticized for breastfeeding in public! They wouldnt have had to do that if some members of society werent so screwed up about breasts and breastfeeding. You say 'This practice which is as old as the hills, has been leapt upon by militant feminists'...this practice is called breastfeeding, and you dont need to explain how old it is either. These militant feminists are actually just ordinary mothers, who had to make a stand and stage a protest. Todays society has become so far removed from what is normal, right and natural, and its such a shame. Its not about instigating a reaction, or causing controversy, its about women wanting to be able to get on with their lives, and a huge part of that is knowing that they can nurse whenever their babies need it and not feel that they have to run off and hide, or suffer dissaproving looks! These women are not exhibitionists and trouble makers as you so rudely claim, you clearly have no understanding and thats why you say these ridiculous things. Some members of society need to get rid of their ingrained prejudiced views and start supporting nursing mothers. Failing that, avert your eyes, or move away, because people like you are offensive to nursing mothers and their babies.

It's morons like you that make people feel too embarrassed to feed their baby anywhere than at home. How a baby feeds is way different to how a couple may sexually interact. A baby feeds on the breast, not the nipple. Due to a babies vice like suction, to feed via the nipple would be painful. But this is way beyond your comprehension because you are a sick joke of a man. Many babies do not tolerate being covered up when feeding...and it's possible to discreetly feed without a blanket or cover, in fact sometimes more than a big blanket that sort of says "breastfeeding is happening underneath here" Mothers who breastfeed in public are not showing off, or trying to draw attention to themselves, or "make people a part of their miracle" however, because breastfeeding is such an emotive subject..it does evoke a reaction in some people and that is unfortunately just the culture we live in where breastfeeding is widely "promoted"yet unsupported with the right information and support systems.
