A thrilled – and no doubt utterly exhausted – woman is celebrating becoming a mum of "leaplets" after giving birth to quads on February 29. Emma Robbins, from Bristol, gave birth to four boys by Caesarean section 11 weeks early.
Zachary, Rueben, Joshua and Samuel were born within six minutes of each other on Wednesday night at St Michael's maternity hospital.
The smallest baby weighed 2lb 8oz (1.1kg), the heaviest weighed 3lb 1oz (1.4kg).
All four were conceived naturally, and two of the babies are identical twins - a one in a million chance. The boys are said to be doing very well.
Consultant Tim Overton told BBC Breakfast News it was "exceedingly rare" for quadruplets to be conceived naturally.
And he said there were concerns because two of the babies shared a placenta, which meant they were in competition for food.
"It's a bit like having four children and only three plates of food," he said.
But, thankfully, the boys were all healthy.
Speaking before the birth, Emma said she was surprised when she found out she was pregnant with four babies.
She said the ultrasound operator broke the news to her and her husband, Martin.
Emma explained: "She said 'have you got twins in the family?' "She then went really quiet and turned the screen to us and said 'actually, I can see three sacs'.
"Then she started counting and said 'there's two in the third sac. It's quads'.
"We were really surprised."
Good luck to Emma, Martin and their four babies!
