Why I still breastfeed my four year-old son

The average age of breast feeding around the world is 7 years. This is when a childs immune system is just about fully developed and they no longer need their mothers milk to provide immunity. Children brought up in an environment where they have unconditional love will become secure in their independence. All children will eventually become independent, but not all children will be secure in their independence, if they are pushed away before they are ready. If you want your children to communicate with you as teenagers and not take on risky behaviors then show them the love and understanding when they are little, and fulfill their needs. Breast feeding a child of 4 is natural for that child, you cannot force a child to be breast feed, and he will wean when he is ready to do so (independence).

Why do we feel the urge to comment on someone elses way of living and inflict our own perfect world on others. Sorry to burst your bubble but you're all not perfect.

Because of mass media forcing to beleive what is right and wrong can effect people psychologically and when we hear things like this we all think it's wrong or weird; and all because we don't know anyone else that is doing the same thing. Majority of the comments aren't formed by your own opinion but by the way media expects you to respond.

I think there's another underlying issue with this - do these women enjoy having their nipples sucked and derive some sort of kinky satisfaction? I wonder how many of these children admit to their friends that they still suck Mummy's boobies for milk?

I breastfed mine for 4 months, 3 years and 4 years. I gave up breastfeeding my first son so early, as he was feeding every other hour, which left me totally exhausted and unable to go out. Apparently I was eating snacks with hydrogenated vegetable oil as an ingredient, which transpired it was weakening my breast milk, so the babies never felt full. I only found out this info when my second child was 6 months old and I was determined to breastfeed for longer, as cleaning and sterilising bottles were time-consuming, and my son had became very sick at 7 months old with a blocked bowel.

A friend breastfed her four daughters for a min. 18 months and the last for nearly three years. I was amazed she could do it so long. But I was impressed at how lovely, well-behaved and bright they all were. I thought she must be doing something right, so I was determined to follow suit. When I'd discovered that hydrogentaed vegetable oil in food weakened the breast milk, I cut it out and straight away my daughter was feeding every four hours as she should have been, and slept through the night. It became so easy and so natural that I only stopped when my doctor told me that as my next baby was due in two months, they would both be competing for the milk. My daughter was on full foods by then, and only having breast milk really for a couple of minutes a day, when she was tired. It was soothing for her and she was always out like a light after a couple of mouthfuls. What I did notice, when comparing notes with another mum who only gave up breastfeeding her own daughter at 18 months, was that as long as they were breastfeeding, the children suffered no teething problems. No runny nose, no temperatures, no pain. She noticed that her daughter had only just started teething problems as her back molars were coming through. For this reason I decided to carry on with my daughter and she got her molars through with no teething problems at all. I was dead impressed but surprised that no midwife had ever mentioned that this could be a bonus to breastfeeding. All we were told was that it would help us shrink our tummies after pregnancy.

What I did read in the Daily Mail when I was six months pregnant with my daughter, was that if one took omega-3 and evening primrose supplements during the last three months of pregnancy (when the brain is forming), then the baby's IQ would be higher. I went out and bought some evening primsrose supplements (I didn't bother with omega-3 supplements as I was eating tinned sardines and tinned mackeral every day for lunch anyway), and took them all through the rest of my pregnancy.
It worked. She gets top marks without even trying and everything comes easy to her. Unfortunately, I forgot to take it with my youngest son, so he finds schoolwork and concentration a lot harder.

When I had my first son and heard of mothers feeding for four years, I thought it was odd too, but there are so many benefits.

Surely a child of 4 should be weaned by now? What's she going to do when he starts school if he hasn't already started? Will she come in during his breaktimes and lunchtime and breastfeed him whilst the other kids eat there meals? Does he eat anything else or just breast milk? What's it going to be like when he's an adult and he can still remember ******* his mum's nipples?

She obviously doesn't realise just how bad it is for kiddies teeth to be breastfed for that long, it can make the teeth very week and prone to decay ! I saw a patient who breast fed her daughter until she was about 3, the little girls teeth are full of caries, she needed 8 milk teeth removed, they was due to being breastfed for so long - COMPLETELY IRRESPONSIBLE AND TO BE HONEST I DON'T THINK ITS RIGHT !!!
