A toddler has died after falling into a canal in Northampton.
Two-year-old Jehovah Pembele, who was known as Giovani, was found in the water near Northampton town centre at the weekend.
His dad, Fernando Kutati, raised the alarm after the toddler was discovered to be missing from outside their home at around 6pm on Saturday.
He is believed to have wandered off when playing outside with other children.
As his desperate family, police and neighbours began a search for him, police officers found the the toddler in thick reeds in the canal.
Officers performed CPR on him before paramedics arrived and took him to Northampton General Hospital. He was later moved to Glenfield Hospital in Leicester, where despite further attempts to resuscitate him, he was pronounced dead at 3.25am on Sunday.
Mr Kutati said the infant had been enjoying playing in the sunshine with the other children in the street, and that he had popped indoors where his wife was preparing a meal.
He told the Northampton Chronicle: "I went into the house and I came back out and I didn't see my son again. There were maybe 10 kids in the road and maybe one of them saw him and can help us (to find out what happened).
"He was a very good boy. He was a very good child."
Heartbroken Mr Kutati has now called for a fence or barrier to be put up along the canal as it could save the lives of other children and adults.
He added that he had been lying down at the waterside each day and praying for his son.
Such a tragic story.

I will not judge the father.
I am curious about one thing though ........ Why did the child need to be transferred to a second hospital?
The move alone could not exactly have increased his chances of recovery.
Just what did the second hospital have that the first didn't? Why was this the case?
There is nothing we can do for the poor child except offer condolence but I want to know why a British hospital was not able to carry out those procedures involving complicated and difficult resuscitation.
I do not doubt the chances of recovery may well have been minimal even with the best possible attention, but why the need to move him again?
Such a terrible waste of a young life, 2 years old is too young for a child to be away from a parent.
