Bangkok traffic cop has delivered 47 babies in traffic jams

As job descriptions go, this traffic officer should head straight to his HR department.
He not only directs busy traffic in Bangkok, but also acts as a roadside midwife when mums-to-be on the way to hospital give birth in their cars while stuck in traffic jams.
The traffic cops on duty in the Thai capital have had special training to cope with on-the-move births.

Bizarre birth partners
- Clarksâ shoe fitters help deliver baby in-store<p> Michelle Collins had a shop full of staff to help her deliver baby Ethan <a href="http://www.parentdish.co.uk/2011/11/28/mum-names-son-ethan-clark-after-giving-birth-in-clarks-shoe-shop/" target="_blank">after she went into labour in a branch of Clarks!</a> She delivered Ethan Clark (yes, after the store) in the staff room with lots of shoe-fitters on hand to help! “I didn't get any of my shopping but I did leave with a baby. I'm so grateful to all the staff who helped me and helped to look after my daughter Jodie while I was otherwise engaged," said Michelle.</p>

- Mum gives birth in car park after police stop her twice<p> Rachel Rodger almost had a whole group of police officers for birth partners when she was stopped not once, but <a href="http://www.parentdish.co.uk/2012/06/06/mum-gives-birth-in-car-park-after-police-stop-her-twice-on-way-to-hospital/" target="_blank">twice on the way to hospital, whilst she was in labour!</a> Rachel was in the final stages of labour as she made her way to Perth Royal Infirmary in Perthshire, Scotland with her husband Jason. They were held up by two lots of police roadblocks and made to answer questions on a local break-in before being allowed to continue to hospital. The quizzing went on so long, that Rachel didn't quite make it into hospital, and gave birth in the car park outside!</p> <div> <div> </div> </div>

- Artist gives birth as performance art<p> Marni Kotak didn’t just have the one birth partner. Oh no, this performance artist had a whole room full when she gave birth in her gallery last year. <a href="http://www.parentdish.co.uk/2011/10/11/artist-to-give-birth-as-part-of-performance-art-show/" target="_blank">Before the event,</a> Marni explained her plans on her website, saying: "In my work, I aim to convey my real experience of life, while simultaneously engaging in authentic shared moments with my viewers who have likely gone through similar or related events The long-term project will ultimately encompass the overall span of the child's life from birth through attending college and developing an independent life.”</p> <div> </div>

- New mum delivers her own nephew<p> Talk about keeping it in the family! Just weeks after giving birth to her own baby boy, mum-of-three Emma Lewis, 28, <a href="http://www.parentdish.co.uk/2012/06/12/new-mum-delivers-her-own-nephew-after-sister-goes-into-labour-at-home/" target="_blank">delivered her sister's baby</a>. She was recovering from her own labour when she visited her heavily pregnant sister Sarah. Minutes into her visit, Sarah gave birth on her living room floor and welcomed baby Will, weighing 7lb, 4oz. "Afterwards there was a houseful at my sister's," said Emma. “Quite a few of my family and friends were there!”</p>

- 12-year-old delivers baby brother<p> Gaelan Edwards got an early dose of work experience when he <a href="http://www.parentdish.co.uk/2011/08/24/12-year-old-boy-delivers-his-baby-brother/" target="_blank">acted as a midwife for his mum last year</a>. The 12-year-old came to the rescue when his mum Danielle started having contractions in her bedroom at home in Canada. Gaelan raced in to help when he heard her cries, and ended up delivering the baby boy. Gaelan said his knowledge of medical TV shows and books on babies his mum had at home helped him out when he was faced with the delivery task, admitting he had ‘seen different ways to pull a baby out over the years!’</p> <div> </div>

- Taxi driver helps as mum gives birth on back seat of his cab<p> Taxi drivers claim to have seen and heard it all, but for cabbie Peter Wakefield it was a first when <a href="http://www.parentdish.co.uk/2012/04/23/taxi-mum-gives-birth-on-back-seat-of-cab/" target="_blank">he helped deliver a baby after a mum went into labour on his back seat.</a> Faye Branighan was in labour when Peter picked her up from home. He raced her across town but her baby was in one heck of a hurry and arrived on the back seat, in the hospital car park! “After breaking a few traffic laws we got to the Queen Elizabeth maternity doors and he was born right there in the back of my taxi at the door,” said Peter. “I was standing with the father in total disbelief just looking at the back of my vehicle with the two back doors open and midwives and nurses everywhere!”</p> <div> </div>

- Sisters trade places in hospital bed to give birth<p> Sisters Rhiannon and Natalie Perllman narrowly missed out on being each other’s birth partners when they <a href="http://www.parentdish.co.uk/2012/04/03/sisters-give-birth-in-the-same-hospital-bed-one-day-apart/ " target="_blank">gave birth in the same hospital bed </a>within a day of each other! Rhiannon and Natalie traded places in the maternity suite when one was wheeled out after having her twins as the other was wheeled in. But as you can imagine, neither of them were in much of a state at the time to exchange pleasantries as they were whisked by each other! The sisters were able to enjoy each other's company for a while together in the hospital's ward after giving birth to baby Ellen and twins Finlaye and Riley. </p>

- Mum'Âs baby delivered by her father-in-law<p> No awkwardness here! New mum Vikki Taylor Wilson has become very close to her father-in-law - <a href="http://www.parentdish.co.uk/2012/07/10/mums-new-baby-is-delivered-at-home-by-her-father-in-law-with/" target="_blank">after he delivered her baby on the hall floor!</a> Stephen Wilson was called on to help deliver his own grandson after his daughter-in-law went into premature labour. He even used a pair of shoelaces from his son's new trainers to tie the umbilical cord before cutting it. “When I arrived at the house all I could hear was screaming so I ran into the house to find Vikki on the floor,” says Stephen, 61. “I have never delivered a baby before but there was no time to think, Natural instinct was all I had.”</p>

- Identical twin delivers sister's baby<p> When Aimee Bowler went into labour unexpectedly at home, she knew exactly who to call. Her identical twin sister Emma Bowler-Morris had been at her side at the previous births of all her four children. But when Emma arrived at her twin's home just minutes later, there was no time to get her to hospital. Instead she <a href="http://www.parentdish.co.uk/pregnancy-and-birth/my-identical-twin-delivered-my-baby/" target="_blank">delivered her sister's baby on the bathroom floor</a> - in the pitch dark and using just a light from her mobile phone as there had been a power cut! "I'm just so glad Emma was there to help me through it” said Aimee. “She has been with me through all the births of my children - but she never expected that she would actually deliver baby number five.”</p>

- Six-year-old delivers his baby brother<p> Six-year-old Joby Kane not only <a href="http://www.parentdish.co.uk/2012/06/15/six-year-old-boy-helps-deliver-his-baby-brother-and-saves-hiis-life/" target="_blank">acted as a midwife for his mum</a> when she went into labour with baby Harley, but he also saved his baby brother’s life. After her second son made his somewhat unexpected arrival into the world, mum Kelly, 28, noticed the umbilical cord was around his neck, causing him to choke. Joby helped untangle the cord and saved the little boy’s life. His mum Kelly couldn’t be more proud. “Joby knew what to do. I'm so proud of him," she said. "He's my superhero, he was absolutely brilliant. I thought it would have scared a child but he kept very calm and did not want to leave my side."</p>
