Pipe down! Noisy toys take just seven minutes to annoy parentsAlamy

There is no amount of festive cheer that a noisy, musical toy unwrapped on Christmas Day will not squash.

But it's not just us at Parentdish being Bah! Humbug! - 72% of fellow parents say noisy toys are one of the biggest stress triggers on Christmas Day, and it takes just seven minutes for us all to find them too much to bear!

The research from ASDA, which polled 2,000 people, also found that 23% of us get annoyed if relatives give our children noisy toys as presents (we thought that figure would be a lot higher...), and over half of us (54%) hide noisy toys where they cannot be found by teeny, tiny hands (and ears).

According to the survey, the top five most irritating toy sounds are:

  • Toy car siren sound effects
  • Whistles
  • Baby dolls crying
  • Toy phones ringing
  • Drumming

Do you agree?
What extreme measures do you take to avoid the beeps, whistles and rings over Christmas?

Our editor Tamsin was furious when her relatives brought musical toys for her twin boys, and promptly hid the batteries...

Merry Christmas!
