Worst celebrity parents
- Macaulay Culkin's parents
Child actor Macaulay actually ‘divorced’ his parents Christopher and Patricia following their bitter divorce, and misuse of his Home Alone fortune, which paid for their court battle. It’s been reported that Macaulay’s dad became obsessed with money following the success of Home Alone, and forced his son into more acting. The sensible lad now stays well out of the spotlight.

- Dina and Michael Lohan
Lindsay Lohan’s mum Dina has made her fortune on the back of her daughter’s mis-fortune, giving countless interviews and even starring in her own reality show about her dysfunctional family. Li-Lo’s dad Michael isn’t much better. The estranged father has been in and out of jail for various crimes since Lindsay was little.

- David Hasselhoff
Although he has since given up the booze and sorted himself out, the Hoff makes our list due to a pretty appalling incident in 2007, when he was filmed by his teenager daughter Taylor-Anne, rolling around on the floor drunk, completely out of control. The footage was never intended to go public, and you could hear poor Taylor pleading with her dad to stop drinking in the background. Thankfully, he did.

- Danniella Westbrook
Following a much-documented struggle with drugs, Eastenders actress Danniella took things to a whole new level when she admitted snorting cocaine during childbirth with son Kai. She told Jeremy Kyle (who else) that things didn’t just stop there, and that Kai once saw her in a ‘cocaine convulsion’, saying: “I was in a terrible state. I had a cocaine convulsion and my three year old son was trying to put a Mars Bar in my mouth, trying to make me come round." Danniella is now, thankfully, clean.

- Nadya Suleman
Octomum Nadya became a household name when she gave birth to eight children following IVF. The American mum already had six children at home, and has become a reality TV star, despite the squalid conditions her children allegedly live in, and her admission in 2011 that she ‘hates’ her babies. She told InTouch magazine: “I hate the babies, they disgust me. My older six are animals, getting more and more out of control, because I have no time to properly discipline them.”

- Alec Baldwin
Actor and actress power couple Alec Bladwin and Kim Bassinger had a bitter break-up in 2002, and spent years fighting over their daughter, Ireland. It all came to a head when Irelanddidn’t answer the phone when her dad rang for their pre-arranged chat (we told you it was bitter!). Instead of trying again a few minutes later, Alec left Ireland (who was 11 at the time), an abusive voicemail, saying: "You are a rude, thoughtless little pig. You don't have the brains or the decency as a human being. I don't give a damn that you're 12 years old, or 11 years old, or that you're a child, or that your mother is a thoughtless pain in the ass who doesn't care about what you do as far as I'm concerned." Alec did apologise, but not before he was banned by a court from seeing his daughter.

- Courtney Love
Courtney admitted taking heroin during her first trimester when pregnant with now-teenage Frances Bean. The singer told all to Elle magazine, but, amazingly, still maintained that she and husband Kurt Cobain were ‘excellent’ parents: “She weighed 7lb, 6oz when she was born and she was healthy. We were excellent parents and I say that despite pretty much always having an edge on. Frances bonded very well with her father, at least in the first year-and-a-half of her life." Courtney lost custody of Frances in 2009. Sadly, they now seem to communicate on Twitter.

- Eddie Murphy
When Spice Girl Mel B gave birth to daughter Angel, former partner Eddie Murphy refused to have anything to do with either of them - claiming the baby girl wasn’t anything to do with him. Poor old Mel had to watch the press play the whole thing out in public, but following a DNA test, Eddie did finally accept that gorgeous Angel was his. He’s has now started to have contact with his little girl. Too little too late?

- Jaid Barrymore
Drew Barrymore, now a mum herself to baby Olive, cut off all contact with her mum Jaid when she was a teenager. When Drew was a toddler, Jaid took her to parties and clubs, including the notorious Studio 54. Drew was hooked on coke by the time she was 13, but battled to get clean and went on to become a much-loved actress around the world. She now refers to her friends - famous and not - as her family. Sensible woman.

- Britney Spears
Brit had a bit of a rough time of it in the years following her quickie marriage (and quickie divorce) to Kevin Federline, what with the head-shaving incident and all. She was ‘papped driving with her son Sean Preston perched on her lap, without a car sear in sight. The mum of two was slated by the press and parenting groups, but claimed she only did it as she was escaping from ‘danger’, saying: “I was terrified that this time the physically aggressive paparazzi would put both me and my baby in danger.”

- Joe Jackson
Joe was desperate for Michael and his brothers to succeed, and it’s well documented that he used a belt on them if they didn't perform well. There are also allegations of psychological abuse. In fact, it’s rumoured Michael would often become ill upon seeing his father. A very sad tale.
