If you dont know what a funny meme is, you're missing out on the best part of the internet. Yes, I am aware of the internet's benefits to humankind through increased efficiency, social awareness, productivity, accountability...yada yada blah blah blah. Just google cat meme, hit images, in three hours when you realise the time, tell me you disagree.

A meme specifically is like a mode or concept which becomes part of popular culture within society. For example, you are familiar with the first LOTR film, where Sean Bean says "One does not simply walk into Mordor. Its black gates are guarded by more than just Orcs. Etc." This image has become a meme to joke on anything difficult to do. For example, google "One does not simply stop eating nachos and dip". This joke would not have made sense to most people before the films were realised. This kind of shift in collective understanding can be described as a meme. Its a great concept, and although it predates the internet, it was only really popularised by it.
