Here's how to make a simple, not-so-scary bat craft with the kids for Halloween, using recycled materials.
This is easy enough for even toddlers to make with adult supervision, and older children can get creative with some additional suggestions for ways to decorate and display them at the end.
You will need:
1 cardboard tube
black paint
A5 piece of black card (half the size of A4) You could also colour white card with a black pen.
2 googly eyes
glue
scissors
a white pencil or crayon
Instructions:
1. Paint the cardboard tube and leave to dry.
2. Fold the card in half and cut a simple bat wing shape, as in the picture, then open out again.

3. Stick some goggly eyes onto the front of the cardboard tube and draw on a mouth and other details using a white pencil, if desired.
4. Attach the wings to the back of the tube using glue or tape.
5. Thread through some elastic at the back and hang it up in the window to scare the neighbours!
Why not try painting the bat with glow in the dark paint for a spooky, night time display? You could paint it red and stick on white triangles for fangs, to turn it into a vampire bat.
You could add some glitter or black material fur for extra dimension and texture.
To make it more spooky you could create a whole host of them, and hang them from the ceiling to scare your visitors!
Have fun and happy crafting!
