In case long term forecasts of a particularly harsh winter are true, we're going with the Scouts' motto, 'Be Prepared' and stocking up on cosy clothing for all the family.
Here are some of our favourite warm winter items for babes-in-arms (or prams), older kids and even us mums (because we need to keep toasty too).
Winter warmers for all the family
- Wallaboo Fleece Lined Wrapper
An ultra-snuggly wrap that’s far more practical than a snowsuit for younger not-yet-mobile babies who’ll mainly sit in their pushchair or car seat. As soon as you go in somewhere warmer or need to change their nappy, simply unwrap this, rather than wrestling them in and out of a bulky all-in-one.

Better than a blanket too as it features slots to feed a harness through for use on a pushchair or car seat. Large enough to wrap over babies up to 18 months. £44.95 from Hippy Chick.

- John Lewis Dog Hat
Cute doggy hat, complete with flaps to keep tiddly ears covered.

There’s also a girlier version - both are machine washable and sizes cover three months to two years. £8 from John Lewis.

- Hippychick Waterproof Dungarees
Brilliant for toddlers whose idea of fun is rolling round in snow or jumping in a puddle. Use them as a waterproof shell over warm trousers such as thick tracksuit bottoms.
Available in blue or plum and for ages: 12-18 months, 18-24 months, 2-3 years, 3-4 years and 4-5 years. Buy slightly big to get your money’s worth - the elasticated sleeves and legs can be rolled up to fit. £23 from Hippy Chick.

- Monsoon Boy Check Fur Hat
Smart blue check print on the outside, super-soft fur on the inside. - Merrell Taiga boots
Designed to deal with North American winters (ones where a cold day means -32 degrees c not -2!), indeed one of our cold feet prone writers put Merrell’s boots through their paces in such temperatures in Canada last year and they passed with flying colours.

Grippy soles prevent slipping on snow, and thermal furry linings keep feet warm, whether you’re standing watching the kids sledge for hours at a time or walking all the way home because your car’s stuck in a snow drift!
