Gwyneth Paltrow: 'My painful struggle with post natal depression'
Gwyneth Paltrow has talked about her 'painfully debilitating' battle against post natal depression after the birth of her second child, Moses.Gwyneth, who is married to British rock star Chris Martin, told how she had expected to feel 'euphoric' after giving birth – just as she had done after her first child, Apple, was born in 2004.
But when Moses was born only 23 months later, the feelings she felt were the extreme opposite.
The actress made her comments in her weekly newsletter, Goop, which she sends out via the internet. She wrote: 'When Moses came into the world in 2006, I expected to have another period of euphoria following his birth.... Instead, I was confronted with one of the darkest and most painfully debilitating chapters in my life.
'For about five months I had, what I can see in hindsight as post-natal depression, and since that time, I have wanted to know more about it.
Billie Piper puffs smoke in son's face
Actress Billie Piper was determined to give up smoking when she was pregnant with her son Winston, now aged 21 months. But these days, cigarettes are very much back on the menu.
The 27-year-old mum-of-one has been photographed puffing away in a pub garden – right in front of her toddler.
In one picture, smoke from her roll-up appears to be blowing right into her son's face.
Billie was spending time in a sunny pub garden with her son and actor husband Laurence Fox, when she was spotted smoking.
When I Grow Up, I Want To Be...
Despite reality TV and talent shows being the mainstay of kids' TV viewing, it seems that today's youngsters are actually shunning dreams of fame and celebrity in favour of more entrepreneurial aspirations. Britain's top business people and politicians are the role models our children are looking up to, according to a new survey.
Peter Andre wins Celebrity Dad of the Year
Peter Andre has been named Celebrity Dad of the Year, beating Gary Barlow, Jeff Brazier, Gordon Brown and David Cameron.
The singer, 37, is most famous for being Katie Price's ex-husband.
The pair had two children, Junior and Princess, and Andre is also step-dad to Katie's son Harvey.
On winning the award, presented by Bounty, he said fatherhood was his "most important role".
He said: "This feels so good. It's been a turnaround year for me and the kids and it's an honour to be the subject of the public's support and best wishes.
"This means a huge amount to me as being a dad is my most important role."
Andre said some might say this would be the only award he would ever win. "Even if it is, what a great award to get. I mean, there isn't a better award, there isn't - because it's lifelong," he said.
"Other awards are for there and then, this is for life. My kids are going to know that I have won this."

Supermodel Claudia Schiffer has finally announced the name of her new baby girl - and, wait for it - she's called Cosima Violet Vaughn Drummond.
Claudia, 39, gave birth on May 14. You can see why it took them so long to come up with the name, can't you?
A spokesman said: "Mum and daughter are now home and doing fine."
She has two other children with her film producer husband Matthew Vaughn - Caspar, aged seven, and Clementine, five.
Apparently the couple wanted to wait until all the members of their families had met their new daughter before they told the world her name.
The Mirror reports that Cosima comes from the Greek word kosmos, which means order or decency.
Who's the best role model for your children?
Kids+, Money & work, Latest news
The most popular role models chosen by mums for their children are Richard Branson and JK Rowling, according to a new poll.
However the children themselves say their parents are their best role models. Ahhh. Bless.
The survey asked 2,000 mums who they would most like their children to grow up to be like.
According to the Telegraph, 15% of mothers chose Sir Richard while 11% chose the Harry Potter author.
So, mums want their children to be rich, then...
The survey also questioned 1,000 children, and found that 20% of six to sixteen-year-olds thought their mum or dad was the ultimate role model.
The poll was carried out as part of the Mums' Wish List, commissioned by Aquafresh to launch a new campaign to reward mothers.
Other popular celebrities with mums were Jamie Oliver, the chef, who came third with 10% and Barack Obama, who scored 8%. Microsoft tycoon Bill Gates and Cheryl Cole, the singer, were both on 6%.

The TV chef Jamie Oliver is expecting a fourth child with his wife Jools, it has been announced.
Oh dear God. What do you suppose they're going to call this one?
Their first daughter, who is eight, is called Poppy Honey, their second, who is six, is called Daisy Boo while their third daughter, who is nearly one, is called Petal Blossom Rainbow.
Dandelion Burdock Doolally Tat? Just a suggestion.
A statement put out by the couple said: "Jamie and Jools Oliver are delighted to announce that they are expecting their fourth child."
Jools, a model and writer, is due to give birth in September.
Jamie, 34, who found fame as the Naked Chef, has previously said that he would like a boy as he is seriously outnumbered.
He has joked that he needs another male in the house as "back-up" when the girls are bossing him around.
Iceland is looking for a "real mum" to star in campaign
The supermarket chain Iceland is searching for a "real person" to be the new "face" of the brand.
Kerry Katona was fired last year after drugs allegations and Loose Women star Coleen Nolan has recently quit.
So the chain has given up on celebs and is now looking for a "down-to-earth" customer to take over instead.
There will be X-Factor style auditions with Coleen Nolan joining the judging panel.
Customers are being asked to apply for the role of "New Face" and live auditions will start around the UK at the end of March.
An Iceland spokesperson said: ''Coleen Nolan is undoubtedly a hard act to follow.
''So after long, hard consideration, we've decided not to try and replace her. Instead we're turning the spotlight on our customers to give them a chance.
"At Iceland, our customers are very important to us, especially mums and we know they have a great deal of affection for our brand.
Surprise, surprise - Coleen Rooney has lost her baby weight
Babies, Pregnancy & birth, Celeb parenting, Latest news
Coleen Rooney was out on the town this week - and it looks like she's lost her baby weight just two months after giving birth to her son Kai.
Apparently she's been on an intense exercise and diet regime since the birth. So who's been looking after the baby?
The wife of Wayne, the Man Utd and England football star, showed up at a fashion party wearing a skimpy silk dress, which clung to her figure, showing just how hard she's been working.
The 23-year-old was also wearing gold chandelier earrings and nude peeptoe heels, and instead of a nappy bag was carrying a pewter clutch bag.
She had previously said she was not planning on rushing into losing weight after the baby.
But it looks like somehow it just happened. Which it probably does if you hire a personal trainer.
Kerry Katona could be set for baby number five
Babies, Pregnancy & birth, Celeb parenting, Rumours, Baby watch, Latest news
Kerry Katona has hinted that she might have a good reason for leaving "Fat Camp" - there's another baby on the way.
She said on Twitter that she had "unexpected news" and added: "Mark, I love you."
I suppose that "unexpected news" could be a number of things. Like, she had a salad for dinner. Meow.
However, she later said that her children's £500-a-week nanny Gemma was "the only one to have a strange look on her face in this house... wonder why".
Kerry has previously said she would like another child and told friends that a baby could rescue her financially and save her life by forcing her to give up drugs and booze.
Excellent. Looks like she could be set for the title of "Celebrity Mum of the Year" again, with a cracking attitude like that.
Is it sensible to lose your baby weight in three weeks?
Babies, Pregnancy & birth, Celeb parenting, Latest news
Singer Lisa Scott-Lee has been prancing around with her clothes off this week, showing off her "post-baby" body.
For those of you who can't quite place her, apparently she used to be in some kind of pop group called Steps.
Anyway, she's revealed how she lost her baby weight, all two stone of it, within three weeks.
The singer was back in her size eight jeans just three weeks after giving birth to her second child, daughter Star. Yes, really.
Lisa told the Daily Mail she knows people won't necessarily be pleased for her. "I know some women will hate me," she said.
I don't hate you, Lisa. I'm just not sure how you managed it.
Neither, it seems, is she. "They'll assume I've crash dieted, but I really haven't," she told the Daily Mail.
"It's just the way I am and I know I'm extremely lucky. I also think it's down to breastfeeding – it's great for both mum and baby."
Jordan set to launch new range of baby clothes
Babies, Celeb parenting, Rumours, Latest news
Jordan, aka Katie Price, is set to bring out a range of baby clothes, it has been reported.
Anyone like to guess what colour they will be? Yes, you got it - pink.
It is thought the brand will start off as a collection for girls and will include pink hoodies and combats.
Just what the world needs - some more pink baby clothes.
The glamour model, 31, is rumoured to be planning the brand, to be called KP Baby, for the Selfridges chain.
The deal is reported to be worth £2.2 million.
A source told the Sun: "Kate is determined to re-brand herself in the wake of her recent troubles. She's excited."
Seal says four kids is enough...
Babies, Celeb parenting, Latest news
The singer Seal and his supermodel wife Heidi Klum have just had their fourth child, and that's enough, says the proud father.
"Four is definitely enough," Seal told Hello! magazine.
"I found myself thinking, before (Lou) was born: 'We've got three kids, how am I going to find any more love to give another kid?"
"Then, of course, she turned up and the first time I held her up in my arms at the hospital... I fell in love at that point."
It's good to know some celebrities know when to stop.
It must be quite tempting when you've got a virtually unlimited amount of money to just keep going - like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, who have six kids and counting.
But however rich you are, children still only have two parents who have a limited amount of time.
The worst celebrity baby names of the year
Babies, Celeb kids, Celeb parenting, Weird stories, Baby names, Latest news
Pop singer Gerard Way has won the dubious honour of choosing the worst celebrity baby name of the year.
The My Chemical Romance singer and his wife Lyn-Z (yes, really. I mean the baby didn't stand much chance, did it?) called their daughter Bandit Lee.
That is pretty terrible isn't it? The poor little thing. Apart from anything else, a few nicknames immediately spring to mind, none of which is suitable for a family website.
According to a poll carried out by babynames.co.uk, this was the worst celebrity baby name of the year.
Translate your baby's name - for £1,000
Babies, Pregnancy & birth, Celeb kids, Celeb parenting, Weird stories, Baby names, Latest news
Having trouble choosing a name for your baby? There could be a further complication. Are you sure the name you've picked doesn't mean something obscene in Swahili?
If this is the sort of thing that worries you, a London-based company is offering parents the chance to check the meaning of baby names in other languages.
Today Translations will carry out a "basic name translation audit" of names for £1,000 - checking their meaning in 100 languages.
Apparently if Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes had shelled out they would have discovered that their daughter Suri's name means "pickpocket" in Japanese, "turned sour" in French, and "horse mackerels" in Italian.
Frankly, I'd rather keep the £1,000 and run the risk that my daughter's name means something bizarre in another language.
